RESC partners with startup TWIICE, makers of state-of-the-art exoskeleton technology

ETH Zurich’s Competence Centre for Rehabilitation Engineering and Science (RESC) partners with TWIICE. The startup develops powered lower-limb exoskeletons to optimize gait training therapy for patients with neurological disorders.

TWIICE brings gait training to real life with advanced robotics. Neurological patients enjoy the benefits of more focused, task-oriented training in engaging environments. From passive mobilisation to active training with customised assistance, TWIICE accompanies its patients throughout their recovery process. With a focus on patients with high degree of impairment such as motor-complete SCI and stroke, TWIICE allows a wide range of activities to be performed during gait training. Together with athlete Silke Pan, TWIICE has won a medal at four consecutive Cybathlon competitions, reaching second place in 2020.

Co-founder and CEO Tristan Vouga on their vision and motivation to partner with RESC: “We strive to make lower limb exoskeletons a reality for patients who need them. Powered exoskeletons are a long-existing technology but still suffer important limitations for widespread adoption. Co-creation of products with patients and clinicians is at the core of the TWIICE spirit. The partnership with RESC provides TWIICE with the opportunity to join an important network of industry leaders and experts in the field of rehabilitation to best meet the needs of our users.”

“TWIICE tackles an important gap in rehabilitation and inclusion by striving towards a widespread adoption of powered mobility solutions for people with severe impairment of the lower extremities”, says Oliver Stoller, Executive Director of RESC. He adds: “Their contemporary co-creation approach will hopefully add further benefits to patients and increase accessibility and affordability. RESC fully supports TWIICE’s mission and is looking forward to a fruitful collaboration.”
