ETH Zurich’s Competence Centre for Rehabilitation Engineering and Science (RESC) is pleased to welcome its newly elected members Chris Awai, Florian Freislederer, and Christian Lanz.

Chris Awai
external page Dr. Chris Awai is Managing Director of the cereneo Foundation, Education Program Director and Research Group Head at Lake Lucerne Institute, and Lecturer at ETH Zurich and University of Zurich. He received his PhD in Health and Human Movement in 2014 from the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis and University of Sydney and since then focuses on developing digital biomarkers for human movement for various neurological disorders. Specifically, his research group investigates the use of established and emerging technologies to quantify movement in terms of quantity and quality. Next to identifying and understanding markers of movement along with their clinical utility, especially in terms of long-term health tracking and prehabilitation, Dr. Awai is passionate about the transfer of research into clinical use. At the cereneo Foundation, Dr. Awai endeavors to translate the knowledge from his research into practice for the whole continuum of care.
Florian Freislederer
external page Dr. med. Florian Freislederer is an orthopaedic surgeon, speciality shoulder and elbow. He is senior consultant (Oberarzt) at the Department of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery at the Schulthess Clinic Zurich since 2020. He studied Medicine at the Universities of Pisa, Münster and Sevilla. He did his postgraduate education to become an orthopaedic and trauma surgeon in Switzerland and got his FMH degree in 2019. He did his doctoral thesis from 2016-2020 at the University of Basel. Along with his clinical work he is active in research and is the author or co-author of over 20 publications and several book chapters. He has been a speaker at the European and German Shoulder Society congresses aswell as on the Swiss Orthopeadic congress over the last years. He is member of the task force for clinical guidelines of the german shoulder and elbow society.
Christian Lanz
external page Dr. med. Christian Lanz is Head of the Department of Neurology at the Schulthess Clinic, and a board-certified neurologist (FMH). He studied medicine at the University of Vienna and received training in neurology at the University Hospitals of Heidelberg and Zurich. His clinical expertise lies in electrophysiological and sonographic diagnosis as well as treatment of diseases of the peripheral nervous systems, the spinal cord and the spine. A further focus is on pain medicine, particularly on interventional pain therapy with the clinical research aim at enhancing therapy improvement.
