MyoSwiss AG, an ETH spin-off, was founded in 2017 by Jaime Duarte and Kai Schmidt. They developed the Myosuit, a soft wearable exoskeleton, external page for rehabilitation and physiotherapy applications as well as external page use in daily life. Their goal is it to develop cutting-edge technology that can help people with mobility impairments make the most of their untapped potential to be physically active (again). With the Myosuit they have successfully introduced an innovative solution, enabling users with weak legs to do more again.
Co-founder Jaime Duarte on their vision and motivation to partner with RESC: “We envision a future for rehabilitation where patients and their needs are at the centre of care. For this to happen, healthcare providers, industry, and the government must work together. The leadership team at RESC shares our vision and we are excited to partner with them to make this a reality. Our collaboration will bring great benefits to patients and the healthcare professionals involved in their care.”
“Myoswiss provides much needed solutions in the field of mobile systems for movement therapy and assistance”, says Oliver Stoller, Executive Director of RESC. He adds: “The technology opens novel options for remote therapy and monitoring in a variety of clinical conditions. However, integrating novel technologies into established rehabilitation settings is challenging, as proof of efficacy against standard care needs to be provided and financial structures are just under development. The partnership between MyoSwiss and RESC will facilitate and strengthen innovative projects between healthcare providers and insurances, industry, and researchers towards the continuum-of-care.”
The ETH Competence Centre RESC is a nexus of expertise from academia, hospitals, industry, government, healthcare, disability organisations, and other NPOs. Its mission is to improve the quality of life and participation of people with physical disabilities; thus contributing towards a more inclusive society. RESC promotes exchange, interdisciplinary research projects, innovative education programmes, and knowledge transfer.
