RESC partners with award-winning medtech startup Scewo
ETH Zurich’s Competence Centre for Rehabilitation Engineering and Science (RESC) partners with award-winning medtech startup Scewo. The company developed the BRO power wheelchair, the world’s only electric wheelchair that combines driving on two wheels and climbing stairs.

Scewo AG is the result of a student project at ETH Zurich and ZHdK in 2017 and was founded by Bernhard Winter, Thomas Gemperle and Pascal Buholzer. The team produces the world’s only electric wheelchair that combines driving on two wheels and climbing stairs. But the Scewo BRO stands for much more than just functionality: Thanks to the unique combination of technology and design, BRO not only moves people but also inspires a change in thinking. This combination has been awarded several times, lastly with the Swiss Medtech Award 2021.
Founder and CEO Bernhard Winter on their vision and motivation to partner with RESC: “In the medtech industry, a large network and interaction with various stakeholders is extremely important. Here we can benefit from the experience and contacts of the RESC. In addition, we both strive for the inclusion of everyone, so our visions fit perfectly together.”

The ETH Competence Centre RESC is a nexus of expertise from academia, hospitals, industry, government, healthcare, disability organisations, and other NPOs. Its mission is to improve the quality of life and participation of people with physical disabilities; thus, contributing towards a more inclusive society. RESC promotes exchange, interdisciplinary research projects, innovative education programmes, and knowledge transfer.
